Centrifugal Fans

Rosenberg offers a wide range of centrifugal fans for numerous applications. In addition to different casing designs, Rosenberg centrifugal fans are offered in both single and double-sided inlet design. In addition, the fans are also available with different drives. Energy-saving EC external rotor motors, conventional AC external rotor motors as well as IEC standard motors are used.

A distinction is also made between fans with forward or backward curved impellers.

Range Type Applications
EC-Centrifugal fans with backward curved centrifugal impellers
EHAG... In this series, only energy efficient EC external rotor motors are used for the drive. The high-performance centrifugal fans with backward curved blades are specially designed for use in modern ventilation and air conditioning equipment, and are suitable for the conveying of slightly dusty air and slightly aggressive gas and vapours. The sizes correspond to the standard number series R20 according to DIN323.
Centrifugal fans with backward curved centrifugal impellers
E/DHA... These centrifugal fans have been developed especially for use in modern ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, and are suitable for the conveying of slightly dusty air and slightly aggressive gas and vapours. The sizes correspond to the standard number series R20 according to DIN232.
Centrifugal fans with IEC standard motor and backward curved centrifugal impellers
EHN...

The high performance centrifugal fans of the EHN... series are suitable for the conveying of clean or slightly dusty air and slightly aggressive gas and vapours. They are not gas-tight. The permissible conveying medium temperature is between -30°C and 60°C.

Range Type Applications
Centrifugal fans with forward curved centrifugal impellers
E/DRA... These centrifugal fans have been developed especially for use in modern ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, and are suitable for the conveying of slightly dusty air and slightly aggressive gas and vapours. The sizes correspond to the standard number series R20 according to DIN232.
High efficiency Centrifugal fans with slippage characteristics
E/DRA... By using specially designed external rotor motors with high rotor resistance, we have developed a range of centrifugal fans with extremely high slippage character in conjunction with forward curved centrifugal impellers. The external rotor motor adjusts its operating behaviour to the respective loads and this changes the speed dependent on the total pressure. This is particularly advantageous in systems where resistances vary during operation such as, for example, with dirty filters, controlled dampers in the connection and disconnection of duct installations as well as for cleanroom applications.
Centrifugal fans with IEC standard motor and forward curved centrifugal impellers
ERN...

The high performance centrifugal fans of the ERN... series are suitable for the conveying of clean or slightly dusty air and slightly aggressive gas and vapours. They are not gas-tight. The permissible conveying medium temperature is between -30°C and 60°C.

Explosion Proof Fans

The Directive 2014/34/EU governs the subject of “Explosion Protection” throughout the European Union. Regulations referring to placing products on the market to be utilised in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres are established in this specific directive. Rosenberg fans are designed in an explosion-proof version, manufactured and tested in accordance with the requirements of the following standards:

EN 1127-1
Explosive atmospheres - Basic concepts and methodology
EN 13463-1
Non-electrical equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres, part 1 Basic method and requirements
EN 13463-5
Non-electrical equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres, part 5 Protection by constructional safety "c"
EN 14986
Design of fans working in potentially explosive atmospheres

Technical Information

Mechanical part

Rosenberg fans for potentially explosive atmospheres are manufactured and tested in accordance with the state of technical knowledge. The possible contact surfaces between rotating and stationary components, in view of operating malfunctions which are typically to be expected, are manufactured using materials with a minimised ignition risk resulting from friction, grinding or impact sparks. The inlet and outlet of the fan can be fitted with guards, if required, to prevent the dropping or sucking in of foreign particles. The guards must at least meet the requirements of EN 13857.

Electrical part

The motor data for an optimally cooled motor are stamped onto the type nameplate and are part of the contents of the EC type examination certificate for zone 1 motors. Refer to the fan nameplate for the nominal fan data. In order to realise a favourable speed ratio for voltage-controlled fans with external rotor motors, motors may possibly be used which have a higher rated voltage than the fan voltage. In this case, the information on the motor differs from that on the fan in the voltage, current, power, speed and tipping time data.

Identification

As a result of the assessment of ignition risks, the fans will be marked as follows:

II 3G c IIB T3 (X) / II 2 G c IIB T3 (X)

» Classifications

Explosion proof operating equipment for potentially explosive areas is classified in the European Standard EN 60079-X. The individual ignition protection categories are detailed in separate standards, such as:

Ignition protection categories Standard
General requirements EN 60079-0
Equipment protection by flameproof enclosures "d" EN 60079-1
Equipment protection by pressurized enclosure "e" EN 60079-7
Classification of areas - Explosive gas atmospheres EN 60079-10-1
Equipment protection by intrinsic safety "i" EN 60079-11
Construction, testing and marking for Group II electrical equipment with type of protection "n" EN 60079-15

Rosenberg external rotor motors are in accordance with type of protection Increased Safety „e“. For Zone 1 this would be „eb“ and for Zone 2 „ec“.

These ignition protection categories are valid for electrical appliances in potentially explosive rooms and units, where gases or vapours can form or accumulate and produce explosive mixtures in combination with air.

The ignition protection category Increased Safety "eb" shows that increased safety measures are taken to prevent the possibility of inadmissibly high temperatures and the occurrence of sparks or electric arcs in the interior or on external components of electrical appliances which do not occur during normal operation.

Electrical equipment of ignition protection category "ec" is not able to ignite a surrounding potentially explosive atmosphere. They only can be used as category 3 (Zone 2) devices.

Zones

As a basis for determining the extent of requirements to be imposed, explosive areas are classified into zones according to the likelihood of a dangerous, explosive atmosphere or combustible dust. For combustible gases, vapours and mists, the following applies:

Zone 0
For areas where danger of an explosive atmosphere exists long-term (continuously) or frequently
Zone 1
For areas where danger of an explosive atmosphere exists during normal operation
Zone 2
For areas where danger of an explosive atmosphere seldom exists or only for short-term periods

Rosenberg ex-fans are suitable for the ventilation of explosive atmospheres in zones 1 and 2 as well as for installation in zones 1 and 2. When installing 2G fans in zone 2 or in non-potentially explosive atmospheres, or 3G fans in non-potentially explosive atmospheres, it should be taken into account that the fans are not gas-tight.

Temperature classes

Electrical appliances in potentially explosion areas are listed according to their maximum surface temperatures in temperature classes ranging from T1 to T6. The lowest temperature of ignition of the concerned potentially explosive atmosphere must be higher than the maximum surface temperature of the electrical appliance used (according to EN 60079).

Temperature classes maximum surface temperature
T1 450 °C
T2 330 °C
T3 200 °C
T4 130 °C
T5 100 °C
T6 85 °C

Rosenberg fans in the Ex-versions are used for the temperature classes T1 to T3 (T4 on request).

» Motor design

Rosenberg Ex-fans are equipped with external rotor motors with a protection class IP44 as a standard, insulation class F and ignition protection category Ex "eb" or Ex "ec", or standard IEC motors with a protection class IP 55, insulation class F and ignition protection category Ex e (Ex eb /Ex ec available upon request). The motors were tested by the PTB (Federal Physical Technical Institute) and correspond to the European Standards series 60079-xx.

Motor protection of external rotor motors

The winding of the motors feature integrated triple PTC thermistor temperature sensors according to DIN 44082, which must be connected to a PTC thermistor tripping unit with protective labelling Ex II (2)G as motor protection. This specific thermal motor protection is capable of precisely identifying any abnormal operating conditions and external influences, and will then disconnect the motor from the mains via a contactor in the event of any conceivable malfunction. It is only permissible to install commercially available motor circuit breakers as additional safety devices, since they are not able to ensure complete motor protection under all conceivable operating conditions (e.g. operation with reduced voltage).

Speed control of external rotor motors

The design of the drive motors allows for a stable modulation of the motor speed via a voltage reduction. Only transformer controllers may be used for this purpose. Rosenberg controllers for use with explosion-proof fans already contain the mandatory essential PTC tripping device, but they must not be operated directly in a potentially explosive zone.  Refer to the tables of the accessory list for the allocation of the controllers. The permissible voltage modulation range of between 25 and 100 % of the nominal voltage meets the typical requirements of systems with a variable volumetric flow. If the system is operated in the reduced-voltage range, the operating current may exceed the nominal current. The percentage current increase in comparison to the nominal current is listed in the data tables as Delta I. Controller and control units must be designed to handle the maximum operating current. Regular external rotor motors with the ignition protection category “eb” are not allowed to be used with frequency converters.

Motor protection of IEC standard motors

Standard motors have to be fitted with an upstream motor protection switch. The information provided by the motor manufacturer is to be observed. Standard motors with the PTC thermistor permit as single motor protection can also be protected with a PTC thermistor tripping unit. Refer here to information under motor protection for external rotor motors. However, an authorised motor protection device must be connected in any case.

Speed control of IEC standard motors

The speed of standard motors can be controlled by frequency converters. In this case, only motors with ignition protection categories "d" or "de" should be used.

The product range includes ex-centrifugal, ex-axial, ex-duct, ex-roof and ex-tube fans. For further information on our explosion-proof fans, please refer to our selection programme for fans RoVent10.

Switches and Controllers

MultiControl Controller - MTC

The MTC-MultiControl is a Multifunction controller with integrated display and was especially developed for the use with EC-Fans. The housing is made of plastic and can be fixed at the desired installation location using two screws. The integrated week-time control is controllable via Day/Night Set point and can independently switch on/off the Controller. With predefined programs, like pressure-, volume flow-, temperature-, humidity- and  speed control the MultiControl is versatile. The MTC is equipped with two control loop (two outputs 0-10V) and a Relays output. More information in our product information.

Potentiometer POT 1

Potentiometer 10 kOhm installed in the housing with switch. Scaling 0 - 100%, for a 100% variable manual set point selection of the EC fan. The Potentiometer is suitable for the on-wall and in-wall mounting. All necessary components are already included in the scope of delivery.

Potentiometer POT 2

Potentiometer 10 kOhm installed in the housing.scaling ascending, for a 100 % variable manual set point selection. Rocker switch for the release of the EC fan, as well as green and red LED for the optionally available status display (Operation / Error).

Potentiometer POT 3

The 10V-Output voltage is implemented through 3 switching steps. By an internal potentiometer the desired tension value can be adapted at stage 1 and 2. Stage 3 gives the maximum output voltage of 10V to the EC fan. The On/Off function is realized via 0-position. The 3-Stage Potentiometer is suitable for the on-wall and in-wall mounting. All necessary components are already included in the scope of delivery.

Motor protection relays MSE / MSD

Rosenberg motor protection devices are equipped with on/off switches, main protection switches and operation indicator lights. They are designed for 1.3 kW motor power consumption in the E (single-phase) model and for 2.5 kW or in the D (three-phase) model as standard.

5-step controller RE / RTE / RTD

5-step controller with main protection and operation indicator lights for transformational speed of voltage controlled motors/fans. Five different speeds can be set on a connected motor/fan using the built-in device step switch. The switching circuit 1 is the lowest and the switching circuit 5 is the highest speed. The control circuit of the controller is protected by a 2 A fuse. The RTE/RTD controllers are also available with connection for a flow monitor and a gas solenoid valve (RTE..G/RTD..G). The flow monitor must be installed in the air stream of the fan. If a sufficient amount of air is fed through the fan, the gas solenoid valve is activated via the flow monitor. The application range of these devices is favoured in the kitchen exhaust when gas appliances are installed.

Transformers for switch cabinet installation TE / TD

Auto-transformers (according to VDE 0550) for single-phase AC or three-phase current with 5 taps, mounting pads and connection terminals. The maximum permissible ambient temperature is +40°C.

Electronic speed controller ED

This control panel is designed for continuous speed adjustment of fans with voltage-controlled single-phase induction motors. The rotational speed is controlled by lowering the voltage using power thyristors (phase cutting control) over the entire range of 0 - 230V. Several fans can be connected to the device if the sum of the individual currents does not exceed the rated device current. The operation is done on the device's rotary switch. On the inside of the device, there is an adjustment screw which allows for the setting of the minimum speed of the fan.

On/off switch GS

On/off switches according to utilisation category AC-23 (switching of motor loads or other highly inductive loads) according to DIN VDE 0660 Part 100. The regulations in DIN VDE 0113 Part 1 and EN 60204 Part 1 apply to the safety or electrical equipment of machines. Protection class IP55.

The on/off switches are also available as an EX version for explosion protection according to CENELEC and IEC.

Calculation Examples

Rosenberg EC-fans have high energy saving potential under full load and especially under partial load. The efficiency losses are significantly lower than with conventional AC-motors at the same air flow. The improved energy efficiency results in fewer CO2 emissions. In addition there are lower investment costs for speed control of the fan. A control transformer, VFD or phase angle controller are not necessary. All necessary components are already contained in the EC-motor electronics. Modern EC-technology from Rosenberg is not only easy on the wallet, but also on the environment.

Fans with EC-Drives

Rosenberg offers a plethora of energy efficient fans with EC-drives in the area of standard fans, fans for OEM-applications, and fans for use in ventilation units. EC-fans are utilized everywhere where economical energy usage and simple control are required based on the actual ventilation needs. The integrated electronics sets the EC-fan for optimal operation every time. All that is needed is a control signal.

Open Loop

In operating mode “open loop“ the speed of the fan can be steplessly adjusted through a 0-10 V or 4-20 mA set point input. EC-fans with integrated electronics are speed controllable 0...100% of the nominal speed.

Closed Loop

In operating mode “closed loop“ the EC-fan compares the nominal value with the measured actual value and adjusts the speed accordingly to the set requirements. The measured values (pressure, air flow volume, temperature, CO2 …) must be present as an electrical signal 0-10 V or 4-20 mA.

Bus operation

In operating mode “bus“ the EC-fan can be integrated into a bus system through an RS-485 interface.

ECParam

With the free Rosenberg software ECParam, changes to settings of the EC-fan can be made using a USB-to-RS485 adapter. Current operating conditions can also be read-out (Changing the operating mode, setting a specific minimum or maximum speed, and much more)

The following fan types are available with EC-drives:

Furthermore, due to their outstanding properties, EC-fans are generally used in our energy recovery units. Depending on the air volume and application our Airbox air handling units are also equipped with energy efficient EC-fans.

External rotor motors are used with moisture protection, with built-in ball bearings, and are designed with thermal overload protection. The drive by the external rotor motor provides a space-saving, compact and attractive design. The motor sits inside the impeller and is thus optimally cooled. For this reason, a 100% variable speed control can be guaranteed. Only well-dimensioned ball-bearings, fitted on both sides and with a long-life lubricant, are used. Both ball-bearing seats are ground to high precision in one work step to eliminate any vibration. External rotor motors are also characterised by an extremely low starting current. The windings comply with thermal class F. In addition, the windings have standard moisture impregnation.

Electrical connection

The motors are fitted with an outgoing cable. The electrical connection is made via an IP44 terminal box which is supplied loose.

» Design and Downloads

Properties

The Rosenberg centrifugal fans with free running, backward-curved, high-performance impellers in the GKHM / GKHS / GKHR series form a very compact, constructively optimal ventilator unit in conjunction with an electronically commutated external rotor motor (EC motor) with newly developed integrated power electronics.

In developing these centrifugal fans, compact power electronics was adapted to the proven Rosenberg EC external rotor motor (GD 150). This drive concept results in a very compact unit in which the EC controller and the EC motor no longer have to be physically installed separately from each other.

Free running impellers with EC motors are available depending on the size of different designs:

GKHM
fan built-in module
GKHS
fan built-in module with spider design
GKHR
motor impeller with or without loose enclosed inlet cone

Electrical connection

The mains connection and the contacting of all control and signal inputs are carried out directly on the motor. This eliminates the time-consuming connection with shielded cables.

Speed control

The infinitely variable speed input of the motor is done by connecting an external potentiometer (accessory) or an external 0-10 V/PWM signal.

  • compact, space-saving design

» Design and Downloads

Properties

The fans are designed mainly for device installation and are preferably used in air-conditioners, hygiene equipment, clean room filter units and HVAC systems. During the development of the backward-curved impeller for use without a spiral casing, special emphasis was placed on optimising efficiency over a wide characteristic curve with high power density, whilst having as optimal a noise level as possible. The fans are designed to convey air and other non-aggressive gases or vapours. As drive motors, asynchronous external rotor motors from our own production are used. In addition to the modular design (DKHM), these fans are also available as a motorised impeller (DKHR).

Impellers

The impellers with 8 backward-curved blades are made of aluminium sheet (AIMg3) and statically and dynamically balanced together with the impeller hub or the external rotor motor used according to the quality level G 2,5 / G 6,3 as per DIN ISO 21940-11. If desired, the wheels can also be manufactured from sheet steel with a plastic coating. The direction of rotation of the impellers is standard clockwise rotation (seen from the suction side). Counter-clockwise operation will cause overload damage to the motor. Therefore, the direction of rotation should always be checked before starting up.

Electrical connection

Electrical connection via external terminal box protection class IP44.

Motor protection

All motors have PTC thermistors inserted in the winding (motors with thermal contacts upon request), which automatically monitor the winding temperature of the motor. If wired correctly, they protect the motor from overload, failure of a mains phase, brake locking of the motor, and from air temperatures which are too high. The motor protection devices offered by us include the motor protection device in combination with PTC thermistors in the MSD1 K model. In general, the PTC thermistor can be connected directly to the frequency converter used.

Electrical connection

The drive motors are fitted with an outgoing cable. The electrical connection is made via a protection class IP44 terminal box which is supplied loose.

Fans

We offer a wide range of standard fans for a variety of applications and fans for OEM applications. All Rosenberg fans are equipped with direct driven external rotor motors which are manufactured in-house. The Rosenberg fans offer you fans with decisive advantages in comparison to conventional fans:

  • extremely long service life
  • compact design
  • motor and impeller assembled in one unit
  • the speed is 100% controllable (auto transformers ; controller)
  • low start-up current
  • Rosenberg fans are equipped with motor protection through thermal contacts as a standard feature
  • The impellers are balanced on 2 levels according to DIN ISO 1940 (quality grade G2.5).

AC motors

The drive using an external rotor motor offers space-saving, compact and attractive design. The engine sits inside the impeller and is thus optimally cooled. For this reason, a 100%variable speed control can be guaranteed. V-belts, additional tension bars and motor mounting devices are not necessary. Only well-dimensioned ball-bearings, fitted on both sides and long-life lubricants are used. Both ball-bearing seats are ground to high precision in one work process to eliminate any vibration.

External rotor motors are also characterised by an extremely low start-up current. The drive motors correspond primarily to protection class IP54 according to DIN EN 60034-5. The winding insulation corresponds to the thermal class F. In addition, the winding has a standard moisture protection impregnation.

EC motors

The EC motors used are characterised by very high efficiency even at partial loads, and excellent control behaviour. They are easy to connect, individually preconfigured, compact in design and have a high power density. The implementation of additional functions (e.g. volumetric flow and pressure control) is possible. Rosenberg EC motors primarily meet protection class IP54; input voltage of 380V-480V (50/60Hz). Rosenberg EC motors are continuous speed controllable and have integrated motor protection.

You can choose from the following types of fans:

Fan selection software

With our new fan selection software RoVent10 an operating point specific fan selection can be made quickly and easily from over 2.900 fan models. The software is kept up to date through regular automatic updates. You can download RoVent10 here.

General

The controllers adapted to Airbox units offer the best in comfort and safety in the operation, monitoring and servicing of the system. The controllers are manufactured in accordance with VDE guidelines and meet the requirements of the applicable EC directives. Thus together with custom controllers, Rosenberg air handling units provide an optimal device. With this concept, the aim of maximum system well-being and highest comfort with minimum energy use is achieved cost-effectively and safely.

The Rosenberg controller series is suitable for supply air, indoor air or exhaust air temperature control. The controllers are used for transformer control of direct-drive fans, to control standard motors, frequency inverters and EC motors. Only microprocessor-based controllers which allow for high control accuracy are used in ventilation systems for the implementation of the various controller tasks.

TR Basic Controller

The control cabinet TR-Basic is designed for ventilation applications with temperature regulation requirements. The TR-Basic allows operation for fans with external rotor motors, standard motors combined with frequency converter and energy-efficient EC-fans.

Temperature and it´s set-points can precisely controlled with installed room-, outlet- and ambient-temperature sensors. The switch-box for wall mounting is steel-sheet housing with powder coating and a door-sealing made of PU.

The completed control-cabinet is equipped with user terminal in the front-door, which shows text messages and symbols. This local handling allows to read operation conditions and alarms or to modify configuration parameters and set-points.

Airtronic controller series

The latest DDC technology is used in the Airtronic controller series. The Airtronic control unit enables not only standard motors and external rotor motors to be controlled, but also frequency inverter operation as well as control of energy-saving EC fans. The advantages of this technology also include the option of customer-specific adaptation for many applications, making the Airtronic suitable for a highly diverse range of control functions The Airtronic is available in two versions – Airtronic Basic and the more elaborate Airtronic D – which differ according to the maximum number of inputs and outputs and are individually programmed for each air ventilation system.

Functions such as pressure control, flow rate control or fan control according to air quality or CO2 are also possible here.  Upon request, the Airtronic control units can be connected to a higher-level BMS via the LON bus or the Modbus.

Control panel

The control panel can be installed directly into the control cabinet door, or alternatively, be supplied as a remote operating panel. A week program is also integrated for switching the system on and off or for setting different nominal temperatures and ventilation specifications with seven switching times per day. Fault messages, system statuses and internal settings are displayed in plain text.

Both Airtronic and TR controller series have a master switch. This makes it possible to disconnect the entire ventilation system.

» Defrosting concept / antifreeze protection

Freezing of the heat exchanger

The surface temperature of the counterflow plate heat exchanger decreases with falling outside temperatures. If this falls below the dew point of the exhaust air, condensate drops on the plates of the heat exchanger. The dew point depends on the absolute humidity content of the air. Although the condensation energy of the water increases the efficiency of the counterflow plate heat exchanger that is related to the air supply, freezing takes place here under certain conditions.

If the units of the SupraBox COMFORT series are used in applications where the exhaust air is only slightly humid, heat recovery can work well below -10°C without losses. If the exhaust air comes from wet rooms, however, antifreeze protection may already be needed at -5°C and below.

Since the average outdoor temperature in Central Europe is typically above 0°C during the heating season, there are only a few days a year where antifreeze protection is necessary. Thus, efficiency rating reductions in this area have a diminishing impact on the efficiency rating of the unit over the whole year.

Intelligent 3-sequence defrosting concept

All compact air handling units in the SupraBox COMFORT series include an intelligent 3-sequence defrosting concept. The special feature here is that the integrated bypass of the equipment is NOT used to defrost the counterflow plate heat exchanger. An expensive, highly dimensioned reheater is not needed because the heat recovery is not bypassed.

Depending on the settings done during the commissioning as well as the accessories used, up to 3 sequences are available to defrost the counterflow plate heat exchanger. These are explained as follows.

The counterflow plate heat exchanger is monitored for freezing using a differential pressure switch. If the heat exchanger freezes, this is detected by the differential pressure switch and the defrosting operation is initiated automatically by the control.

During commissioning, the antifreeze strategy to be used can be defined (sequences).

  1. If an imbalance of the fans is allowed (adjustable via keypad), the supply air fan is reduced by 30% in the event of freezing to generate defrosting from the warmer exhaust air.
  2. If an electronic preheating is connected (accessory) and released (adjustable via keypad), this is activated in the event of freezing to preheat the outside air and thus defrost the heat exchanger.
  3. If both options have been released, the supply air will be reduced first. If this is not sufficient, the preheating is activated after 5 minutes.
  4. If neither measure is effective or none of the measures are possible (missing release), the SupraBox COMFORT is disabled and an alarm is displayed. After 10 minutes, the SupraBox COMFORT restarts the fans automatically and the sequences are "executed" again. An acknowledgement of the alarm is not necessary.

Antifreeze protection - preheating for prevention

Optionally, the preheating can be used preventively by setting the control unit of the SupraBox COMFORT unit. If this is the case, the pre-heating is already switched on at an adjustable outdoor air temperature to prevent the heat exchanger freezing.

Energy Recovery Units

More than efficient

The heating energy loss in many buildings could be greatly reduced by increasingly more effective thermal insulation. While the operator saves money in the form of minimised energy costs, in many buildings, a natural air exchange can no longer take place because of this airtight construction. The people who who reside within these buildings are the victims. The quality of the air often leaves much to be desired, and seems musty and and stuffy. Airing through windows can remedy the situation ; however, it is not always possible or severely impairs comfort by cold air and drafts. At the same time, the hard-won energy-saving potential is be wiped out by the escape of warm air through the windows, especially in winter.

This does not mean that energy-efficient new buildings or renovations must conflict with a pleasant feeling of well-being. The solution to the problem is called "mechanical ventilation".

But even with the mechanical ventilation, there are differences. The requirements for ventilation systems are increasing steadily with numerous rules and guidelines for energy efficiency and air hygiene. Then there is the often a lack of space through the optimal utilisation of the room area of buildings, which often does not allow for the use of large air handling units as the sole central solution. Even the often complex and time-consuming planning and design of air handling units, as well as the immense amount of wiring for the electrician on site, justifies the use of compact, pre-wired air handling units with defined components.

SupraBox COMFORT for a pleasant feeling of well-being

SupraBox DELUXE for draught-free comfort ventilation

The Rosenberg SupraBox DELUXE energy recovery units have been specially developed for direct, decentralised placement in the room. They represent a sophisticated ventilation concept, benefiting both the people in the room and the operators equally.

Through the source air outlet integrated into the unit, the units rely on draught-free and even air distribution. Trouble-free use of the room is guaranteed by the minimal noise levels of 34 dB (A) sound pressure level (at 1m distance).

The units can be set up flexibly in the room and stand intrinsically safe on the floor. Very good integration, both in existing and in new facilities, is guaranteed. Through the integrated source air outlet and the direct removal of the exhaust air via the unit, no additional ventilation pipes are needed for the room. The units are supplied fully pre-wired and thus represent a Plug & Play solution. Highly efficient counter flow heat exchanger and Rosenberg EC fans are also used here, as in the SupraBox COMFORT units.

The SupraBox DELUXE energy recovery unit series is ideal for use in classrooms and seminar rooms as well as offices and common rooms.

Depending on room occupancy, two devices with different nominal air flow (500 m³/h and 750 m³/h) as well as different connections, horizontal (H) and vertical (V) are available.

Air Handling Units - Airbox F40

Casing design

Units in the F40 series have a frameless construction. The Airbox F40 is a low-cost alternative to the S40 series, with small sizes up to a unit size of 13Q (outside dimension 1340 x 1340 mm). All panels in the F40 series are double-skinned, with an inside sheet, outside sheet and insulation in between. The insulation thickness of the side and top panels is 40 mm. The bottom panel of flat units with operation from underneath is also fitted with 40 mm thick insulation. In all other variants, the insulation thickness of the bottom panel is 60 mm. The inner sides of the device are completely smooth. In the standard variant, galvanised steel sheet with a thickness of 1.0 mm, is used for the panels. Alternatively, at additional cost, it is possible to select sheets in galvanised steel with plastic coating, stainless steel V2A (1.4301) or aluminium AlMg3 separately for the outside and inside. The standard colour of the plastic coating is light grey RAL 7035. Other RAL colours are also possible. The rock wool, used as thermal and acoustic insulation, is non-flammable and is partly glued onto the double-skin panel. The F40 units are Eurovent certified and suitable for meeting the hygiene regulations of VDI 6022.

Base frame

F40 air handling units can be fitted with a folded base frame with heights from 100 mm to 500 mm, made from 3 mm thick galvanised steel sheet.

Panel connection

The panels of the F40 series are designed to be offset in relation to one another at their connection points. They are screwed on from the outside at opposite sides in each case along the outside edges, meaning that a highly stable connection is achieved. The screws are located completely within the panel in order to provide the best possible thermal and visual properties. The openings in the outside sheet required for the screw connection on the inside are tightly sealed with UV-resistant plastic caps.

Module connection

Gusset plates are mounted on the casing corners at the factory in order to connect the modules. The supplied tapped screws tighten the modules to the opposite gusset plates. The U-profiles, which are also supplied, produce a completely smooth module joint. The screw connections of the module joint are covered with plastic caps in order to achieve a high hygiene quality.

Eurovent energy efficiency label

Specifically for the F40 series, the unit data sheet from our Eurovent-certified selection programm additionally specifies the Eurovent energy efficiency category and we put this label on the unit. Similar to the way in which energy efficiency indications have been introduced for other areas in the EU, the Eurovent energy efficiency label divides air handling units into categories A to E. In this case, a general consideration is given to characteristic values for air velocities, external pressure losses, configuration outdoor temperature, pressure losses from the heat recovery, efficiency of the heat recovery and electric power consumption of the fans, in comparison to a single benchmark, and the unit is then assigned to the appropriate energy efficiency category. Air Handling Units Airbox

General

Air Handling Units AIRBOX

The requirements on a ventilation system are not always the same. In many applications, all that is required is a straightforward exchange of air, whereas in other applications the requirements can be very exacting with regard to temperature, humidity and purity of the air.

Rosenberg air handling units in the Airbox series have a modular design and  can be individually configured. In this way, the appropriate solution can be assembled using a kind of modular principle for each application in a quick and straightforward procedure. Both, in the high-tech area and for classic building technology, air handling units from Rosenberg deliver clean air at the right tempered room climate. Weather-proof and explosion-proof designs are possible, as well as TÜV certified hygiene variants.

Overview of the unit series

The units consist of a framework structure with double-skinned panels that have acoustic and thermal insulating properties. The individual modules for the filter, fan, heater, cooler, heat recovery, acoustic insulation as well as the frame materials, are assembled flexibly according to the customers‘ requirements. The F40 series is produced in a frameless design. The panels are screwed together from the outside so that the devices are smooth internal surfaces and are hence hygienically safe.

The air handling units Airbox S60 and T60 are equipped with a framework construction made from aluminium or galvanised, rolled steel profiles and aluminium cast corner connectors or plastic corner connectors. The double-skinned panels of Airbox S60 and T60 air handling units are filled with non-combustible, sound and heat insulating rock wool insulation. In addition to galvanised steel panels and the framework construction, it is also possible to select coated steel, aluminium and stainless steel versions in our range. For modules with smaller dimensions, the base frame is manufactured in various heights (100, 300, 500 mm) using galvanised, folded steel sheet. Larger modules have a welded base frame (primed or galvanised).

Energy efficiency

The main factors which are important for the energy efficiency of an air handling unit are the air velocity in the profile unit face as well as the electric power consumption of the fan which is dependent on the air volume and pressure increase. In a combined air handling unit with heat recovery (HRU), the efficiency and pressure loss of the heat recovery must also be taken into account.

We work in accordance with the statutory requirements of the German Energy Saving Ordnance (EnEV), as well as the requirements of the German AHU Manufactures Association (RLT) when selecting the parameters for air velocity, the electrical power consumption of the fans and the efficiency of heat recovery. The criteria of the RLT energy efficiency label correspond to the standard DIN EN 13053 A1 (2011). This standard defines nine air velocity classes from V1 to V9, six heat recovery classes from H1 to H6 as well as six classes for the power consumption of fans from P1 to P6. The specific power consumption of a fan (SFP), installed in the air handling unit, is calculated as defined by the current DIN EN 13779.

» Efficiency classes for AHU Guideline 01

 Criteria A+ A B

Properties

Source air systems for maximum ventilation efficiency at minimum noise levels

Both SupraBox DELUXE unit types are suitable for decentralised use in the room and rely on draught-free and uniform air distribution through a source air outlet integrated into the unit. Ventilation effectiveness, which is two times better than mixed air systems, is obtained using the air source principle according to VDI 3804 and DIN EN 13779. Trouble-free use in the room is guaranteed through minimal noise level.

Demand-controlled regulation using CO2 sensor

The SupraBox DELUXE units are controlled by demand in automatic mode and are infinitely variable up to 100%, ensuring continuous compliance with the 1,000 ppm CO2 concentration in the room.  The regulation of outside air supply is done via a CO2 sensor installed in the room.  If there are no longer people (CO2 producers) in the room, the units shut down automatically, preventing unnecessary energy consumption. If necessary, manual operation can be installed on the controller of the unit. This allows for the selection of three capacity levels. After 1 hour, the units automatically switch back to automatic mode.

Integrated bypass

Both units feature an integrated, continuous bypass with which regulated temperature reduction (e.g. cooler outside temperatures in the morning hours in the summer) and night-time cooling of the rooms can be realised.

Easy-to-install in the room

The units can be set up in the room flexibly and stand intrinsically safe on the floor. Due to the direct removal of the exhaust air from the space above the unit, as well as the integrated source air outlet, no further room-side ventilation pipes and no noise or fire protection measures are necessary. The units are supplied fully pre-wired and thus represent a plug & play solution.

Highest energy efficiency

The units are energy-saving ventilation systems built using the cutting edge of technology with highly efficient heat recovery as well as energy-saving Rosenberg fans using the latest EC technology. Preheating and postheating coils can usually be dispensed with due to an ingenious integrated defrosting concept.

Designed according to current standards and guidelines

The SupraBox DELUXE unit series was developed according to the current, valid safety and hygiene standards. The smooth-faced, double-skinned and generous casing workmanship ensures easy maintenance, low contamination as well as easy cleaning (no open insulation).
